About Heart of Illinois Pony Club
Pony Club has historically been primarily geared toward youth horsemanship education, but recently extended its membership to adults interested in further educating themselves in the proper care of horses and ponies and as riders. It was started in England in 1928 to teach horsemanship, horse and pony care, safety and good sportsmanship to young people who could not otherwise afford expensive lessons. The US joined the program in 1954. Today there are over 500 local Pony Clubs, with more than 11,000 members in the United States. USPC offers their members the opportunity to participate in the mounted equine disciplines of dressage, eventing, mounted games, polo, polocrosse, show jumping, tetrathlon, vaulting and western.
Our local Heart of Illinois Pony Club has 32 members ranging from age 9 years old to 25 at all ranges of riding levels and horse knowledge. We strive to provide them with 11 mounted clinics, numerous un-mounted knowledge sessions for them to learn all about horses and their care, a Schooling Show, a summer camp, and participation in regional events and competitions throughout the year. Our focus, and the focus of United States Pony Club, is to educate our membership in all areas of horse care and management as well as helping to develop competent riders, who have an exemplary sense of responsibility, good sportsmanship, and a desire to give back to the community. Our generous local sponsors help to make this focus come to fruition.
